The Health Care Foundation is passionate about providing patients and health care professionals with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, which is why we are proud to host the third annual Dialysis Dash.

Our goal is to raise much needed funds through this event to support the purchase of next-generation equipment for dialysis programs at the Health Science Centre, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the Waterford Hospital.

We can’t change a diagnosis but we can improve comfort for patients and make treatment a little more bearable.

With support from our sponsors, donors, volunteers and participants, the Health Care Foundation has been able to finish our commitment of purchasing next-generation dialysis chairs, an ultrasound machine and an ice machine for patients in our dialysis units. This year, proceeds from the Dialysis Dash will support the purchase of:

  • Dialysis Machine – A portion of the funds from the Dialysis Dash will support the purchase of a hemodialysis machine for the Waterford Hospital. This machine will purify the blood of patients whose kidneys are not functioning properly.
  • Ultrasound Machine - A portion of funds from the Dialysis Dash will support the purchase of a second ultrasound machine for the dialysis units in St. John’s. This equipment is crucial to providing real-time visualization in the placement of drainage catheters or needles for aspiration of fluid-filled cavities. In addition, diagnostic ultrasound can be used in the assessment of several complications in peritoneal dialysis patients, such as the extent of exit site infections and peritonitis, tunnel infections and localization/identification of renal cysts and tumours.

You can help make a difference in the lives of so many people undergoing treatmentby contributing to the Dialysis Dash!
