My reason for fundraising
I’m raising funds in support of the Health Care Foundation by participating in the Row 4 Heart on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
Fundraising is not my favourite thing to do. However, cardiac care is an issue that I feel compelled to get behind.
My husband, Karl, who is currently 32 years old, was diagnosed in Janaury of 2017 with a heart infection while visting Saint John, New Brunswick, requiring him to undergo emergency heart surgery to replace two of his valves. He spent weeks in hospital in New Brunswick recovering.
Following a successful surgery, we moved to Newfoundland to be closer to family, married and started to get on with our life. Unfortunately, life sometimes has different plans in store for you and in July of 2017, he took a stroke as a result of complications on his heart. After more time in hospital, he underwent a second heart surgery in September of 2017.
Without the support and infastructure in place at the Health Science Centre, I don't know how we would have gotten here today and I am thankful for every day I get to spend with my husband. He continues to require care and will need additional surgeries in the future.
The funds being raised through Row 4 Heart are going to go towards Echocardiogram equipment that has been essential in managing Karl's condition. By making a donation to me, you are helping the Provincial Cardiac Care Program right here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Please make a donation today and help me to reach my fundraising goal!!!
